It is something better: a place you carry with you long after you’ve been there, made of shallow water and fine sand, a peaceful promenade, and restaurants serving fresh fish without needing to book weeks in advance. Where La Caletta is and how to get there
La Caletta is a small seaside village in the municipality of Siniscola, in the province of Nuoro, on the north-eastern coast of Sardinia. It is about 45 minutes by car from Olbia – Costa Smeralda Airport, which is the most convenient entry point for those arriving by plane. Alternatively, it can be reached from Cagliari in about two and a half hours, or from Alghero in two hours.
A car is practically essential for exploring the area, but La Caletta’s town centre is compact and walkable: from our apartment Relax Home the sea is just 300 metres away, and the main amenities — bars, supermarket, restaurants — are all within easy reach on foot.
During the summer season, the municipality of Siniscola offers a free shuttle service to visit all the beaches in the area.
What to see and do in La Caletta
La Caletta beach
This is the heart of the village’s summer life. Wide, with fine sand and shallow water that slopes gently — perfect for families with young children, but also for anyone who simply wants a relaxed day at the sea. The water is generally calm, with small waves only when the Tramontana wind picks up. Along the promenade you will find several kiosks, bars and beach clubs, along with plenty of free public beach.
La Caletta harbour
A short walk from the beach, the small marina is a pleasant spot to linger, especially in the evening. Several boat trips depart from here towards the coves of the Gulf of Orosei: if you have a few days, it is well worth organising at least one excursion.
The promenade and town centre
La Caletta has a peaceful promenade, ideal for an evening stroll. The town centre is small but lively in summer: you will find everything you need, from the pharmacy to the supermarket, without having to drive anywhere, as well as a small evening market where you can pick up souvenirs and local crafts. The restaurants along the seafront serve fish dishes at honest prices, with a relaxed atmosphere that is hard to find in more heavily touristed destinations.

Capo Comino and the dunes
A few kilometres from La Caletta lies Capo Comino, one of the most beautiful natural areas on the Siniscola coast. Its white sand dunes, partially sheltered by a pine forest, create an almost lunar landscape that shifts with the wind. The beach is wide and the water crystal clear. Berchida
Berchida is one of the most beautiful wild beaches in Sardinia: very fine white sand and water of an almost unreal turquoise. Here you will find a lovely restaurant, a bar and a good sun lounger and umbrella service. It can be reached on foot through the Capo Comino pine forest (about 20–25 minutes) or by car along a comfortable dirt road off the SS 125 Orientale Sarda. Arriving at dawn or in the late afternoon means finding it almost deserted.
Posada and the Castello della Fava
About twenty minutes to the north lies Posada, one of the best-preserved medieval villages in eastern Sardinia. The Castello della Fava, perched on a pink granite rock, overlooks the village and the mouth of the river of the same name. It is worth half a day, if only for the atmosphere and the views.
The Gulf of Orosei
If you have more time, the Gulf of Orosei is less than an hour to the south and is one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in all of Sardinia. Cala Gonone is the starting point for boat trips to Cala Luna, Cala Mariolu and Cala Biriola — beaches accessible only by sea, surrounded by white limestone cliffs.

When to go to La Caletta
The best season runs from late May to September. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, but La Caletta handles the tourist influx well without ever becoming chaotic. June and September are excellent for those seeking sun and sea without the crowds, with more affordable prices and a quieter atmosphere.
The coast benefits from a constant sea breeze that takes the edge off the heat even on the hottest days: temperatures rarely exceed 35°C, and evenings are comfortable even without air conditioning.
